We just got back from our annual camping trip to Kerr Lake in NC. We go each year with my dad's family (uncle, cousins, friends, etc.) and it is always a blast. This was quite a trip for us, with all five of us in a tent together, including Jacob in his pack and play! We got there Wednesday evening and the boys pretty much got straight in the water. Two things happened that evening in the water. We discovered that Jacob is not afraid of the water. At all. He walked right into the lake and just kept walking. We decided to let him walk on in and go under (with us there to pull him right up of course) just so he would realize what happens when you go too deep. He went under, I scooped him up and realized he was HOLDING HIS BREATH! Then he looked at me and smiled! The second big thing that happened was Henry was walking out into the lake with my parents and walked into a hole which was just a little too deep for him. They scooped him right up, but he was scarred for the weekend. We couldn't get him out past his ankles again until Saturday. He just didn't trust that water when he couldn't see the bottom.
Andrew, on the other hand, we couldn't drag out of the water. He was in the water by 10:00 am every day, came in for lunch and then we had to beg him to come out and dry off before dark. He followed my cousins around like a shadow while they fished. He played with another cousin in the water. He rode (and "drove") the boat. He even "knee-boarded" a little, meaning he laid on the kneeboard and was pulled behind the boat at about 5 MPH. He loved it! They played so hard that Andrew and Henry would ASK to go to bed after supper.
The funniest moment of the trip was when we were almost home. There was a funeral procession, with police escorts, at the funeral home a few miles from our house. We stopped and Andrew had tons of questions. We tried to explain to him that someone had died and it was respectful to stop to let them pass. Andrew thought for a second and said "I wonder what killed that person?" Henry promptly answered "Probably a tiger."
